When Jesus announced the arrival of the kingdom of God, His words carried the weight of centuries of prophetic expectation. Israel had long awaited a righteous King who would confront evil, restore what sin had broken, and establish God’s justice, peace, and glory throughout the earth. Understanding that hope gives greater depth to Jesus’ message and helps us see the kingdom within the larger story of Scripture.
Many believers have learned to think of salvation primarily as leaving the earth and going to heaven. The prophets, however, looked forward to God bringing His righteous rule to the earth through the Messiah. Recovering their vision enlarges our understanding of the gospel and reminds us that God’s purpose includes not only the salvation of individuals, but also the restoration of Israel, the nations, and creation itself under the reign of King Jesus.

The King has come, His reign is already advancing through the Holy Spirit, and He will return to bring every promise to completion. Recovering this prophetic vision can deepen our understanding of Jesus, strengthen our hope, and awaken fresh longing for the day when the whole earth comes under His righteous rule.
