Jesus did not merely preach a gospel of personal forgiveness. He proclaimed the gospel of the kingdom—the good news that God’s promised King had come and that His reign was breaking into the world.
Yet many Christians are uncertain what the kingdom of God actually is. Is it primarily about going to heaven? Is it something believers experience now? Is it a future kingdom that Jesus will establish when He returns? And how does the message of salvation relate to the larger message of the kingdom?

Understanding the gospel of the kingdom gives us a larger vision of God’s purpose. Jesus not only saves us from sin; He brings us under His loving authority, forms us into a people who represent His kingdom, and prepares us for the day when He will reign openly over the earth.
