Over the next several weeks, we’re going to explore biblical principles for building God’s house by walking through Ezra, Nehemiah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. These books reveal how God restores His people after delay and discouragement by reestablishing foundations, correcting priorities, and stirring hearts back into obedience and covenant faithfulness. One major principle we see is this: to build God’s house, we must leave Babylon. Only a remnant returned from exile, leaving behind comfort and stability in order to obey the Lord and rebuild. In Scripture, Babylon represents spiritual settling—living by what is safe and convenient rather than wholehearted obedience—so God repeatedly calls His people to “come out of Babylon” (Jer. 51:6, 45; Zech. 2:6–7; Rev. 18:4).
